we are attracting mainstream interest, but we are far from raking in the attention based on non-stop entertainment availability within the Gothic scene.
What we need are more small Goth festivals to boom in every major city in the USA... get more press to visit each of those festivals... more media of all types... and then there will be a stampede of support...
Musicians, djs, and Promotor and street team people need to get their shit together.
Begin to realise the potential of actually marketing the music scene to the public.
Get away from the idea that there is no support for it... THEY see no support for it because those involved refuse to open their eyes and see how the system works.
If people know about an event, that's the first step toward attending it.
If they don't even know about it... obviously they cannot be expected to take any interest in it.
In a city of 4 million people, Atlanta... goths seem to think that their scene is small and insignificant... it's because the promotorsz do not try to let the world know about their events.
4 million is twice that of Dallas and Dallas has the lizard lounge which does well because they have the alternative mainstream radio station pimping it out. The Lizard Lounge has 1000+ people attending the goth events there every Sunday because people know about it.
Atlanta suffers from promotor stupidity, laziness and ignorance.
As can be said for just about every other goth scene across America...
It just takes a desire, and of course, some cash resources... to notify the local media and get people to attend the events.
If you make the event a sensation that all media are invited and encouraged and black-mailed into attending... then the media will cover it because it is a sensation... and when you do well, save a few hundred bucks to invest into greater marketing potential for future events and that will get the ball rolling.
Dallas sucks, but someone was smart enough to notify the media and get the local affordable radio folks involved pimping out the club every hour...
the kids are there.. they just won't know about the available events to attend unless they hear about it through popular media.
then you won't be able to keep them out!

Here in Vancouver, our promoters are working hard to bring us regular goth club nights, live goth bands or CD releases every other week, and helpful web-resources, so that’s not the problem. Where I think we need to study other scenes is in creating the feeling of a community--not the infrastructure--as I said, we’ve got dedicated professionals working on that--but the social aspect. It’s the best cure for cliquishness. There were two events that we had, the Gothic Tea Party and Gothic Cheers, both of which were good for this, but they both folded--one because its leader got pregnant, and one because its leader got tired of the feuds in the scene. We also lost a greagrious, enthusiastic DJ who had the chemistry to bring people together when she moved back to Indiana.
